Welcome to Sean-nós Southwest, the home of Traditional Irish dance in San Diego.
Sean-nós dance is a form of percussive dance, most prevalent in Connemara, that emphasizes rhythm, self-expression and an integral connection to live Irish traditional music. Generally performed informally, it is mostly danced at private and semi-private gatherings, house or pub based Irish music sessions, and community celebrations such as weddings: wherever there is Irish music and a decent floor.
Sean-nós Southwest offers regular dance classes, taught by Ben Power, workshops with visiting teachers as we can arrange, and informal Irish music and dance parties where dancers have a chance to enjoy dancing to live Irish music. We can also provide sean-nós dance demonstrations.
New! Our funding from the Alliance for California Traditional Arts has been renewed for 2011 and we will be offering workshops in both San Diego and Los Angeles this coming year. Our last workshop in San Diego this year will be July 20. Information is here and at Pride of Erin.
